Maleia Bracone wrapped up her senior season earlier this week. In her career she had many noteworthy accomplishments including reaching 1000 points as a junior, winning the region championship twice and earning Region 1-5A Player of the Year twice.
But one other statistic went down in the record books a few weeks ago when Bracone passed former female scoring leader Melinda (Hall) Long and male leader Lanny Taylor on senior night against Laurens February 11th. Long, class of 1982 scored 1,856 career points at TL Hanna and Taylor, class of 1968 scored 1,865.
Maleia finished up her career with 1,949 career points. This season as a senior she averaged 20.4 points per game and scored in double figures in all 27 games she played in. Along with the scoring record, Maleia was named 5A State Player of the Year this week. She will graduate in May and continue her academic and athletic career at Presbyterian College.
