The T.L. Hanna Cross Country team competed in the State Championship Saturday. The boys team placed 4th overall which is there highest finish ever in 5A and ties their highest finish since moving to the high classification in the state in the late 90’s. The boasted the fastest average team time at the state meet in school history, an average of 16:51.
The team was lead by ALL-STATE performer Austin Spencer who ran a strong time of 16:19. He is the boys first ALL-STATE representative since D.J. Mattison in 2006. Austin was followed by strong performances by Scott Daughtry (16:49), Nick Rozakos (16:59), Jack McGahey (17:01), Connor Buckless (17:08), Christian Hilton (17:18), and Xavier Swinger (17:31). All seven runners ran there personal best on the Sandhills course. Hanna and Dorman(5A state champs) were the only two teams out of all classifications to have all seven guys 17:31 or faster.
On the girls side Freshman Riley Nicholson ran as Individual qualifier running a strong 20:49 and gained valuable experience that she will be able to share with her teammates.
